A sailing team racing aboard "Mise En Place" -- a Beneteau Oceanis 381 -- primarily in Chicago, Illinois. The team is primarily African American and heavily female. We sail from Jackson Park Yacht Club.

Pam Rice, Keynote Speaker at the Midwest Women' Sailing Conference

May 16, 2026, the conference took place at the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center located at 1450 N Lincoln Memorial Drive in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The annual event welcomed women of all skill levels for on-water and land-based workshops, community building, and sailing education.

Four Directors Added to CMM Board

The Chicago Maritime Museum is pleased to announce the appointment of four new members to the Board of Directors.  After an extensive search and many intensive discussions, CMM welcomes George V. Kisiel, Pamela C. Rice, Kris Habermehl, and Helen J. Kessler to the Board.

An award winning free-lance graphic designer, Pamela is also a Chicago author, illustrator, and sailor. She leads the group Black Chicago Sailors and was part of the first all African-American crew to sail in the Chicago Mackinac Race.

One of her recent children’s books, When the Brown Bird Flies, recounts the early childhood experiences of a decorated Tuskegee Airman pilot, Jack Lyle. Pamela illustrated Captain Bill Pinkney's children's book Sailing Commitment Around the World, and those illustrations are currently featured in the Chicago Maritime Museum's permanent exhibition on Captain Bill's journey.
