Women on the Water (within Jackson Park Yacht Club)

Every other Thursday during the boating season, you can find Jackson Park Yacht Club women boaters gathered together to learn something nautical, enjoy a sail on Lake Michigan, or build connections with other like-minded women.  Six years ago in February 2020 African American boaters Karen Harris, Delia Urgesi-gray and Chiaka Paterson discussed building a Women on the Water (WOW) organization based on the Charter idea of Encouraging and Empowering Women Boaters and creating a forum for networking . What began as a women’s luncheon evolved to be a cherished institution by women boaters all across the City and a catalyst to create more safe spaces for women. Shared leadership has been provided by Chiaka Patterson, Amanda Brinton, Lynette Rhymes  and Arlis Ball.
