Al Thompson is responsible for recruiting many black sailors to Jackson Park. He was instrumental is assisting with instruction, local marine knowledge for navigation, boat purchasing and anything else related to sailing. He was often critisized by existing members of the club for recruiting too many black sailors.
Al encouraged taking cruises and venturing out onto the lake. It was he who encouraged our flotilla trips in the mid 90's. Those were exciting times. MORE
